40 new homes announced for Aboriginal Elders

A new housing development at Bedford Park is set to deliver 40 homes for Aboriginal Elders, after contracts for the $12.17 million project were signed this week.

The Aboriginal Elders Village, named Purrkanaitya – Kaurna for “for all Elders” – was developed through extensive consultation with the Aboriginal communities and will provide a range of outdoor spaces for communal gatherings, including a culturally significant fire pit near the Sturt River.

Construction is set to begin in August 2024, with the first residents expected to move in by the end of 2025.
