Claim group meeting for the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee region #2 native title claim

South Australian Native Title Services Ltd (SANTS) invites all members of the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region #2 Native Title Claim Group to a community meeting:

Date: Saturday, 28 January 2023

Venue: St Martin’s Lutheran Hall, 80 Cliff Street, Mannum

South Australian Time: 10.00am to 4.00pm

Who may attend the meeting:

The meeting is open to all members of the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region #2 Native Title Claim Group, being those Aboriginal people who:

  1. Are the biological descents of the following ancestors:
    a) “King” John and his wife “Queen” Monarta. Children of this union include Jerry Mason (also known as King Jerry Mason) whose wife was Jinny Christmas (also known as Jenny Christmas);
    b) The unnamed mother of Jinny Christmas;
    c) Charles Nattoon (also written Netoon, Natoon) whose wife was Lizzie;
    d) Annie Disher, the mother of Sam and Richard Disher, including:
    i. The children of Sam Disher and Annie Perry; and
    ii. The children of Richard Disher and Annie McLean, who was the sister of Jack McLean, and together were the children of John McLean;
    e) Tommy Bookmark (also known as Bookmark Tommy) whose known wife was Ellen Bookmark. Children of this union include Mary Jane, who is known to have married George Beck;
    f) The unnamed mother of George Lindsay, Bella Lindsay and Ted Lindsay;
    g) John Perry;
    h) Nelly Perry;
    i) Willie Robinson/Scrubber, whose partner was Emily Turvy;
    j) James Wanganeen (also known as James Moore);
    k) The children of John Mack;
    l) The unnamed mother and father of Fanny Pennyfather (also known as Halfpenny);
    m) Frank Fletcher and his wife Esther;
    n) The children of Winnie Murray (nee Reed);
  2. are identified and accepted as First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region under traditional law and custom on the basis of descent from a First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region person; or
  3. are accepted by those listed in paragraph 1 above as being adopted into First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region community under traditional law and custom.

The purpose of the meeting

The meeting is for members of the Native Title Claim Group to:

  1. consider the progress and status of the First Peoples of the River Murray and
    Mallee Region #2 Native Title Claim;
  2. consider the progress and status of the negotiations concerning a proposed Solar
    Power Station in the Native Title Claim area (near Robertstown); and
  3. make any decisions that may be necessary or appropriate to further direct or
    supervise the Applicant in the performance of their duties regarding the Native Title
    Claim or Cultural Heritage activities or negotiations.

travel assistance. Assistance with the cost of travel to and from the meeting will be available
in accordance with SANTS Policy. Lunch and refreshments will be available during the day.
